We are often asked if we can accept donations to the Farm to help with our projects. While Sand n Straw Community Farm is not a non-profit organization, we partner with Tierra de mis Suenos, a 501c3 organization, to further our impact for the community.
Tierra de mis Sueños (Land of my Dreams) was formed with the goal of helping to save, start and enhance urban farms and community gardens. While attending a training on Urban Agriculture, we spoke to a woman who organized and ran a community garden. After five years of being an essential part of the community, the garden was forced to close its doors. A developer wanted the land, which the city was willing to sell to them. The community garden did not have the resources or the connections to raise the funds to match the developer’s funds. Hearing this tragic story which happens in one way or another far too often, we decided to take a step and be part of the solution.
Our mission is to assist gardeners and farmers to create and maintain community centered sustainable farms. We help make it possible for communities to experience locally sourced, fresh produce and get to know their local farmers.
